Wardak is seen as something of a gateway to Kabul for the Taliban. So the decision to expel American special forces in February came as a surprise.
However, the new details allege a string of killings was carried out last winter.
The article quoted a local who was detained by US forces alleging he saw an interpreter, Zikria Kandahari, execute his neighbor with American troops standing by and doing nothing to stop him.
The interpreter has been arrested and stands accused of torturing and murdering civilians while working for the Green Berets.
The timing of the article could not be more awkward for the US. Washington is hoping President Karzai will this month sign a long-awaited security deal, setting the terms and conditions for American forces to remain in the country after the end of 2014.
Negotiations are currently stalled on whether US personnel should be exempt from local laws.
An initial investigation by the Nato-led force in Afghanistan found no evidence of wrongdoing in Wardak.
In July, the US Army’s Criminal Investigative Command launched a new probe into the allegations.
"We currently have an open and ongoing criminal investigation," Chris Grey, spokesman for the Criminal Investigation Command, told AFP news agency
