Dear e-residents,
Last month, we told you that a group of international security researchers had discovered a potential security vulnerability affecting Estonian digital ID cards, including those held by e-residents.
We are now inviting e-residents whose digital IDs were issued prior to 25 October 2017 to remotely update their certificates and protect themselves from this potential vulnerability.
To update your certificates, please follow the instructions below. A video tutorial is also available here.
All previous certificates will likely be switched off in early November. Once this happens, your digital ID card will not work unless and until you update your certificates.
How to update your certificates
Download the latest version of the ID card software. Mac OS X users can download the newest version from Apple’s App Store.
Insert your card into the reader and plug the reader into an open USB port on your computer.
Click “update” in the ID card software and follow the instructions to update your certificates and obtain new PIN codes. NB! Please have a pen and paper ready to write down your new PIN codes during the update process.

Wait for the message “certificates successfully updated” to display in the ID card software.

Připomíná mi to situaci, kdy mi v bance vnutí jakousi elektronickou placičku a nutí mi k uvěření, že když udělám na ní klikyhák, že tím nějak potvrzuji dokument, který byl před pěti minutami u paní na obrazovce.
Který hlupák takto průhlednému sociálnímu inženýrství uvěří?!
